Rep. Max Rose urges Democrats to stop pursuing impeachment of Trump

Freshman Rep. Max Rose is urging his Democratic colleagues not to move forward with impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

The Army-vet Rose represents the 11th congressional district covering Staten Island and southern Brooklyn that Trump won by ten points over Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“For the past decade, the American people have been sending a clear and unmistakable message: End the hyper-partisanship and do your jobs. Yet, both parties have taken electoral victories as mandates to ignore that message to do what they want. It must stop,” Rose wrote in a wrote in the Staten Island Advance.

“I made a promise to my constituents to focus on making their lives better, and I wont break it.”

Rose said Congress has made some progress since he was elected in 2018, including passing laws to permanently extend and fully fund the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund.

“But theres far too much work left to be done and we are in danger of losing the trust of the American people if we choose partisan warfare over improving the lives of hardworking families,” he said.

Rose said the Trump administration is “one of the most corrupt in history” — but cautioned that pressing impeachment will lead Democrats down the rabbit hole and way from bread-and-butter issues voters care about. He said the voters should “make the final decision as to who will lead this country.”

“The truth is impeachment will only tear our country further apart and we will see no progress on the enormous challenges we face as a nation. Impeachment will not fix our roads and bridges or lower the costs of drugs. Impeachment will not keep our kids safe from gun violence or end the opioid epidemic. Impeachment will not improve the lives of the hardworking Staten Islanders and South Brooklynites that I fight for every day,” he said.
