UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is fighting for the return of an American diplomats wife who is claiming diplomatic immunity over the death of a British teen — and will appeal directly to President Trump if she refuses, he said Monday.
Johnson urged Anne Sacoolas, 42, to return to the UK after she fled to avoid charges in the hit-and-run car crash that killed 19-year-old Harry Dunn on Aug. 27.
Britains leader said his cabinet was meeting with the US ambassador in London — and he would raise the issue with Trump personally if Sacoolas continues to remain in America.
“I do not think that it can be right to use the process of diplomatic immunity for this type of purpose,” Johnson told the BBC.
“I hope that Anne Sacoolas will come back and will engage properly with the processes of law as they are carried out in this country. Thats a point that weve raised — or are raising today — with the American ambassador here in the UK, and I hope it will be resolved very shortly.”
Dunn, 19, died when his motorcycle collided with a car near RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire on Aug. 27.
