European champions the Netherlands will take on the USA in the final of the World Cup after a narrow victory over Sweden in their semi-final.

Jackie Groenens pinpoint strike in extra-time was the difference after both sides hit the woodwork in normal time.

A tentative, defensively-minded performance from both sides forced extra-time and the Netherlands stole the advantage thanks to a flowing move in the 99th minute.

Groenen finished off the move with a superb low drive. The goal came as a bitter blow to Sweden who will feel they should have had a penalty in normal time.

Sweden found another gear after going behind, but were unable to break down a stubborn Netherlands defence.

There were worrying scenes in the final moments when Swedens Kosovare Asllani was stretchered off with suspected concussion, forcing the Swedes to push for a late winner with ten players.
