Trump taps 2 nominees for Fed Board amid interest rate fight

President Trump on Tuesday said he intends to nominate Judy Shelton, a former economic adviser to his presidential campaign, and Christopher Waller, vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, to the board of the Federal Reserve.

Trump made the announcements in a pair of tweets Tuesday afternoon at a time when he has criticized the Fed Chair Jerome Powell for refusing to slash interest rates.

Shelton has said that if she was appointed to the board she would urge the Fed to lower interest rates to zero percent in two years, CNBC reported.

Waller has worked in his current role in St. Louis since 2009, while Shelton serves as the executive director for the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development.
