Worse than Diego Costa? Chelsea fans slam Alvaro Morata for latest show of indiscipline

Chelsea fans were hopeful Alvaro Morata would be able to replace Diego Costa when they signed the Spanish striker last summer, but probably didn’t expect the club’s record signing to match his predecessor’s yellow card tally.

Costa led the line with distinction during his three seasons at Stamford Bridge but regularly found himself on the wrong side of the law, antagonising defenders and winding up opposition fans.

Morata began his Stamford Bridge career in scintillating form but has now gone 11 games without a goal following a curious late cameo in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Attempting to wind down the clock and protect his side’s advantage by running the ball into the corner, Morata became embroiled in a curious stand-off with the assistant referee before knocking his flag from his grasp.

The former Real Madrid star had already been booked and was fortunate to escape further punishment, but Chelsea fans were left wondering if they’ve been left with Diego Costa lite leading their line, minus the goals…

Alvaro Morata has now matched Diego Costa's yellow card tally for 2014/15 and 2015/16, here in matchweek 30. Only 2 more and he'll equal Costa's #CFC high of 10 from last season.

Keep reaching for the stars, Alvaro! #CHECRY

Alvaro Morata really is weird, isn't he? Diego Costa knows what he's doing but Morata forgets he's on a booking. Not sure if he knows what bookings are at all…

@ChelseaFC Might be wise to let Alvaro Morata go in the Summer, he is like Diego Costa in one way…..gets booked a lot.

Diego Costa used to fight alot but scores… Loads.

Alvaro Morata fights, too, but only gets yellow cards for his troubles.

What is this?!

If i never saw Alvaro Morata in a Chelsea shirt again, i’m pretty sure i’d be fine with that #wasteofspace

Clearly, Alvaro Morata is desperate & frustrated. He had lost his cool and is engaging more in the antics than concentrating on his play and working hrd to grab that goal. It's important for him to play his role as the CF well, to create the space & the chances to shoot more #CFC
