Dejan Lovren takes swipe at Jose Mourinho ahead of Manchester United clash
The Croatian centre-half was unimpressed with the manner in which the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss set up Manchester United in the two sides’ earlier meeting this season, and he admitted that he expects Mourinho to just play for a draw once more.
Mourinho’s team left Anfield with a 0-0 draw back in October and Lovren poked fun at the Portuguese’s approach, although he confessed that he still views United as a major threat ahead of their latest clash.
‘Last time here, they defend really deep,’ he said in the build-up to Saturday’s lunchtime fixture. ‘So let’s see what happens now.
When asked if he expects Mourinho to adopt the same approach, he added: ‘I think so. They need the points, definitely.
‘For them it will be maybe a point good but for us, we never play for a point. We are there, we will give our best.
‘We will play like we play every day — attacking football. Let’s enjoy.’
Though United lead Liverpool by two points in the league table, that gap was almost turned in the favour of Jurgen Klopp’s side as Crystal Palace led the Red Devils 2-0 on Monday night.
And Lovren believes that Nemanja Matic’s late winner may have changed Mourinho’s plans, as he looks to shut up shop again.
He added: ‘During their last game, I think “Yes they may attack us.” But unfortunately they won in the last moment.
‘You know Mourinho has his own plans. Whatever he does, it is not our job to know, it is our job to focus on ourselves and play how we hope will beat them.
‘Maybe they are not in the best shape but still they win ugly. What matters is the points. It will be a tough challenge definitely.’
