Two teenagers have been arrested this evening following a suspected acid attack at a popular shopping centre.
The pair were taken into custody by police after two women had an unknown substance sprayed into their faces.
The incident took place at around 5.10pm at Lakeside Shopping Centre in Thurrock, Essex.
Both women reported a stinging sensation following the incident, and their faces reddened.
Their injuries, however, are not thought to be serious.
Police were called to the scene near a House of Fraser store.
A spokesman said the incident is believed to be ‘isolated’.
A 16 year-old boy from Romford and a 17 year-old boy from Dagenham were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
Inspector Rob Brettell said: ‘I understand this incident may have caused concern, but we believe it was a targeted and isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider public.
‘The area was busy at the time and I believe there would have been a lot of people who saw what happened.
‘If you saw what happened, have any video of it or have any other information, my team needs to speak to you.’
