PCB says player approached with spot-fixing offer

ISLAMABAD (AP) The Pakistan Cricket Board says one of its players was approached with an offer for spot-fixing, which he declined and reported.

”A player was approached. As per rules he immediately reported to PCB who informed ICC. Matters are jointly in hand. No further comment,” PCB chairman Najam Sethi tweeted Saturday.

Local media claimed that Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed had been approached during the ongoing one-day series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates.

Private television channel Geo News said the incident happened ahead of the second ODI in Dubai while Ahmed was visiting a shopping mall with his family. Ahmed rejected the offer on the spot and immediately informed the PCB’s anti-corruption unit.

Pakistan banned Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif for five years for their involvement in spot-fixing during this year’s Pakistan Super League in the UAE.
